What should my child wear to the event?
Each participating child should wear CWC MV gear or school colors - Green and White OR the 2023 Official Walk-A-Thon t-shirt! Be as festive as possible!
We are excited to have the Dragon Wagon this year, where your student can spend Dragon Dollars to purchase school spirit items.

What is the deadline for getting pledges?
The website will be up and running and able to accept pledges through the last day of school in June 2023. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by April 21, 2023.
How should my child go out and find sponsorship?
The CWC Mar Vista Elementary Walk-A-Thon 2023 should be a fun (and stress-free!) event for the whole family. Here are some creative ways to get your student involved.
Have your student reach out to friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues (in person or via phone or email) to enlist sponsors and spread the word about CWC. It is easy to import contacts from your email server or Facebook using the fundraising site.
Make a short video of your student talking about what they value most about CWC and why it deserves support. There is an easy way to publish the video in the fundraising site and forward it to your contacts.
With permission, set up a table outside a local business to spread the word about CWC and get sponsors. Make posters, display engaging school work - get creative!
The following is a script your child can use to help gather support:
Hello, my name is ________. I am a ______ grader at Citizens of the World Charter School. What I love most about my school is _______. We also have art, music, SEL, and great student led electives.

The CWC Mar Vista Elementary Walk-A-Thon 2023 is unique in that it offers our students the opportunity to get involved in the fundraising process by garnering sponsors in support of their school.
There is a valuable lesson inherent in the Walk-A-Thon: the things in life we value most are only possible if we dedicate time, effort, thought, and perseverance. Our administration, teaching staff, and parents serve as great examples of the hard work and grit it takes to create and sustain such an incredible school.
What better way for our children to learn firsthand, how they too can exemplify these important qualities and be active participants in supporting CWC.
Can family members join the event on March 25th?
Caregivers and parents are not required to be at school for the CWC Mar Vista Elementary Walk-A-Thon 2023. However, it is a FUN event and families are highly encouraged to come and cheer on the students!
How can I volunteer to help with the Walk-A-Thon?
The Walk-A-Thon needs you! We need help with reaching out to classrooms and students to support them in meeting their goals.
We are looking for volunteers to help out in the following ways:
Pre-Event
- Tech support/personal page set up support during Cafecito
- Pass out flyers and answer questions during Cafecito
- Bring items for Cafecito and help track donations toward students' goals
- Solicit donations to help stock the Dragon Wagon
- Reach out to families to help each class get to 100%
- Reach out to businesses in the community to help get sponsorships and/or donations of fruit and snacks for post-Walk refreshment
Day-Of
- Help set up the course on the Greentop - track, tables, water station, etc.
- Help pass out snacks post-Walk
- Help with the Dragon Wagon sales
- Help clean up
- We need a DJ and an Emcee

When I try to upload my photo, there is no option to select a browser. What do I do?
This is normally due to the browser type. Please do not use Firefox and instead use Chrome or IE. Safari occasionally has similar issues as well.
I don't remember my password from last year, and I tried to use the password sent to me. What do I do?

I have requested to reset my password, but the Forgot Password email has not come. What gives?
It is most likely that the email associated with your students account is not the one you are expecting. It is maybe an old email or a partner/spouse/another guardian. If it needs to be changed to you, please email support at giving@cwclosangeles.org to request a change.
When I upload my photo, it appears sideways. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
Due to limitations with the software, the image appears sideways when taken with specific versions of mobile devices. If you have an image that is appearing sideways, it is best to use this tool to reposition it, and then re-upload it.

What is my personal page URL?

I have two children, but I can only find one of them on my account.
Both children should be associated with the same login email. When you log in, it will default to one child. To find the other child's profile, click on the Profile icon in the upper right hand corner. You should see a drop-down with both children listed. Email giving@cwclosangeles.org with any questions.
How can I cover the processing fees?
If you'd like to cover the processing fee simply check the checkbox and you'll be charged the amount indicated next to the checkbox. This amount will also be visible to CWC MV However, on the fundraising page, the amount donated to the student will be displayed.
Is there a fee for just using the site?
No, there is no fee just for using the site.
Can I make a donation to a team?
We encourage making a donation to a specific student to help them reach their giving goals, but you can definitely make a general donation to a team to help reach the team goals.
Click the Donate button at the upper right hand side to make a general donation to the team.

How do I find a participant's personal fundraising webpage?
Click on the home page and begin typing the first or last name in the "Search for Walker" box. Your options will display as you type.
How quickly can I expect an online donation to post to a participant's fundraising account?
Any donation made online should post immediately. If an online donation does not post within 5 minutes, please email giving@cwclosangeles.org for assistance.
How can I cover the processing fees?

Are donations tax-deductible?
All monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
For Canadian donations made online with a credit card, will the amount entered be in U.S. dollars?
Yes. For Canadian donations made online with a credit card, the amount entered in the online donation form will be in U.S. dollars.
Do all donors who mail their donations receive a receipt?
Any donor who mailed their donation and provided an address can request a receipt by emailing giving@cwclosangeles.org
Do all donors who contribute online receive a receipt?
Yes, anyone who donates online, regardless of the amount, will receive a receipt via email.
What is CWC's Tax ID number?
A Tax ID number identifies Citizens of the World as a 501(c)(3) non-profit Organization. The Citizens of the World Tax ID number is: 45-3532127
How do I add a dedication when I make a donation?
When you make a donation online, you can designate what you want to appear as your recognition name on the participant's Recent Donations list. This may be your name, or it could be something such as "From the Flarbman family" or "in memory of dear Tia Rosa."
Do I have to get all my donations in by March 29th?
The CWC Mar Vista Elementary Walk-A-Thon 2023 website will be up and running and able to accept pledges through the last day of school in June 2023.
Why am I receiving emails telling me that I've received a donation?
You are receiving these emails because we would like to keep you updated on your community giving efforts. If you wish to stop receiving these updates, please login to your headquarters and edit your account preferences.
What can I do if a check is written out to me personally?
If a donation check has been written out to you personally, you may endorse the back of the check and mail it in with a completed donation form to Citizens of the World. You can also cash the check and make a donation via online or check to CWC.
Can I mail in a cash donation?
It is not a good idea to send a cash donation in the mail. You may drop off cash on campus along with your donation form or you can deposit the cash into your checking account and send a personal check from your account.
Can I enter a check online?
You can't enter a check online. What you can do is enter a check as a pledge. This can be done in the fundraising section of your headquarters page. The status of the check will be pending until the check is received by Citizens of the World.
Not all of my donors are showing up in the Honor Roll. Why?
As your donors make a contribution, they have the option of whether or not they want to appear in the Recent Donations list.
Where can I find a list of the people who have donated to me?
Log in with your email and password to visit your headquarters page. Select ‘My Fundraising Report' on the left side. You will then find a list of all of your donors as well as a list of all donors to your team.
How can I send a thank you email to my donors?
To send thank-you emails to donors, follow these steps:
1. Log in to your campaign site. You will be redirected to your Dashboard.
2. Locate the relevant donation record in the Recent Donations list at the bottom right of the Dashboard homepage. Alternatively, access all donation records in the Reports tab.
3. In the donation record of the donor you'd like to thank, click the email icon or "Send Email" (If the donor didn't submit their email address, this option is unavailable.)
4. Type the message in the pop-up window, and click "Send Email"
What are the incentives that will additionally motivate my kids?
Each student is both as part of their classroom “team” and individually to bring in as many sponsors and raise as much money in donations as they can to meet the school’s fundraising goals.
The entire goal of this giving campaign is to ask the students to take part in their community to help their school, their classmates, and themselves.
In addition, there are some immediate incentives to help inspire students to locate sponsors and raise money.
What are the goals set out for each class and each individual student?
Each class, referred to as a "team" on the fundraising website, has the goal of 100% participation from the students, and a fundraising goal specific to the class.
We encourage every student and family to take part in working as a community to reach our goals. We understand each family has unique circumstances and also believe that every family can participate. Whether it is $1 or $1000 - we are all in this together and every dollar counts.
While we deeply appreciate families who would like to give to each student in their class to help reach 100% participation, we ask that you give families a chance to participate on their own. Donations to the whole class are appreciated, but please make them closer to the event or within the week after.
What classroom or "team" incentives are the students working for and how do they achieve them?
The goal for each team or classroom is to reach 100% participation.
In previous years, classes have chosen a movie day or pajama day that each class could earn. With school being virtual, classes can get creative about what reward they would like to celebrate their Walk-A-Thon success, but we also have a new incentive.
Each week, the class with the highest participation will be visited by Flames the Dragon and hang out for the week.

What individual incentives are the kids working towards?
Each student can receive digital badges on their fundraising page.
Badges can be earned by:
- Updating their fundraising page with a photo, message, and giving goal
- Getting their first donation
- Getting 5 unique donations
- Getting 20 unique donations
- Meeting their giving goal
Students will also receive shout outs in the weekly update when they get their badges.
What should I set as a goal for our family?
There is no one answer to this question, as families have networks of friends and colleagues to reach out to of different sizes, and widely varying time they have available to devote to asking friends and family to support them.
While we have set a default goal of $300 per student, which is our overall fundraising goal divided among all of our students, you can personalize your goal and raise or lower it.
Set an amount that is right for your family and achievable by your student.
We also encourage you to meet or beat the amount given during the Annual Family Give.
What does and does not constitute a "unique" donation?
A unique donation is any amount of money given either directly to your student's page on the giving website, mailed to the school, or turned into the main office during drop-off and pickup.
Please keep in mind that each donation made requires oversight and data entry from staff or a parent volunteer. Multiple donations by the same donor will be grouped as one donation.
For example:
Dividing a $20 donation into 20 $1 donations from the same person will not help toward earning incentives, the donations will be totaled and entered under the person as one unique donation.
This is not to say that a donor can't give more than once, but again, the goal is to reach out to as many friends and family as possible to give them the opportunity to support your child and to participate within the intended spirit of the event.
What about donating to other kids in the school?
The spirit with which parents make donations to the classmates of their children represents among the best instincts of families in our community.
With that said, we do want to encourage each family in the community to get involved in some manner on their own behalf.
We'd like to ask families who wish to make donations to classmates who have not already obtained a donation of their own, to wait until the week of April 21, 2023, in order to give those families the chance to get involved in the fundraising on their own behalf.
How can I track my class’s progress?
Your class (or team) progress is charted on your child’s Walk-A-Thon page. You can also click through to the class page to see how close the class has come to 100% participation, or to make donations to a classmate’s Walk-A-Thon page.
What is the weekly deadline for getting sponsors so that my child’s class has a chance to get a shout out?
Tuesday, 5 pm is the weekly deadline. That gives the Walk-A-Thon team time to collect and tally all of the donations brought manually to the school and add them to the website tally.
Any donations that come in after the deadline will be counted the following week.
The Walk-A-Thon team will be sending out weekly updates and shout outs every Wednesday morning.
